Can Stem Cells Eliminate a Cause for Glaucoma

Dr. Yiqin DuGlaucoma occurs when the cells of the Trabecular meshwork (a sponge-like tissue in the back of the eye that helps drain fluid out of the system to maintain proper pressure in the eye) cease working properly, and pressure is allowed to build, damaging the system and optic nerve. Dr. Yiqin Du is working towards developing a stem-cell based therapy that would help restore the cells of the Trabecular meshwork, thereby eliminating the cause for glaucoma. Although it has only been a short time since she began her work in this field, Dr. Du has developing some incredibly positive results.
