Lawton Snyder Executive Director
Mr. Snyder directs all development activities for the Eye & Ear Foundation, including corporate and foundation grants, special events and planned giving in support of the academic and research missions of the University of Pittsburgh Departments of Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with the aim of enhancing the quality of patient care through advances gained through supported research. His responsibilities also include serving as the liaison between the Board of Directors of the Eye & Ear Foundation, UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh and enhancing public relations and awareness of the Foundation.
Prior to joining the Eye & Ear Foundation in December 2009, Mr. Snyder most recently served as Director of Development with the School of Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. He has also held a fundraising appointment as Director of Development for University of Arizona Health Sciences, focusing primarily on Ophthalmology and Vision Science, the Sarver Heart Center, and the Center for Integrative Medicine. Mr. Snyder holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Rutgers University, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from University of Pittsburgh, and an MBA from Robert Morris University.
Zack assists the Executive Director with stewardship, solicitation, and research of prospective and current donors. He collects and writes much of the content for marketing and communication appeals for the Eye & Ear Foundation. Additionally, Zack works closely with the Executive Director to put together proposals and appeals to foundations in order to gain support for the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh, and the academic and research goals they strive towards. His other responsibilities include helping manage the cultivation process of donors and working with the Administrative coordinator on multiple marketing and communication campaigns.
Zack received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to working with the Eye & Ear Foundation, Zack worked with 91.3 WYEP, writing, compiling, editing, and voicing several pieces for radio broadcast focusing on the history of live music in Pittsburgh. More recently, Zack managed various medical studies as a research coordinator within the Division of Geriatric Medicine as part of the University of Pittsburgh.
Katherine M. Troy
In addition to the operations of the Foundation office, Katherine is responsible with enhancing public awareness of and support for the Eye & Ear Foundation through marketing and communications. Katherine oversees all aspects of annual appeals, targeted direct mail campaigns, newsletters, marketing publications, web development, and social media. She also coordinates with the Executive Director in other foundation initiatives, including maintenance of the donor database, financial records, and special event programs.
Katherine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, along with a minor in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She began her career as an Administrative Manager with an international life insurance company, eventually leading her to the role of Director of Operations for the Pittsburgh office. Most recently, Katherine sparked her entrepreneurial spirit by co-founding a design firm in 2005. This opportunity enabled her to develop a new skill set in communication, marketing, and social media.
