Leadership in medicine has always been the goal of the Eye and Ear Institute. To fulfill this promise, the Institute must continue to invest in the most talented physicians and researchers and provide them with tools of discovery. Since 1895, the Eye and Ear Institute has depended in large part on the generous support of grateful patients, friends and alumni who want to help the Institute realize this mandate, for the good of patients, the region and modern medicine. Private support seeds important new discovery and closes the increasing gap unfilled by federal funds.
Through charitable gifts, donors have the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting a critically important cause, and often having a very direct impact on the lives of so many others.
Best and Brightest
Continued leadership is dependent in large part on the Eye and Ear Institute’s continued ability to attract star talent. The quality of the faculty and staff determines the quality of care, research and teaching of the next generation. The Institute vigorously pursues this strategy of the best and the brightest by:
- Attracting and retaining some of the top talent in the U.S. and worldwide as faculty
- Seeking to endow Chairs, Center Director positions and Professorships
- Encouraging visiting scholars which stimulate creative thought and discovery and enrich Eye and Ear Institute’s educational environment
- Attracting the best graduate students and post-doctoral fellows
- Ensuring adequate funding of core facilities needed for advanced research and clinical care
- Enabling start-up research and other opportunistic work not covered by federal resources, by securing endowed funds
Leadership
For the Eye and Ear Institute, leadership is a mandate. It drives how quickly and how well innovations in care can be delivered to patients and their families. It sets the standard for the preparation of medical students. It attracts the best minds, fosters collaborations, informs public policy and inspires original thought. Investment in leadership returns dividends of human health, prosperity and progress, in this region and across the world.
